Arik Strauss - an international artist who performed in the USA, Japan and Israel - is a pianist, composer, arranger and music teacher. Arik is the great grandson of the philosopher Martin Buber and the grandson of the author and poet Arie Ludwig Strauss. Musical Education Israel: Classical Piano. From the age of seven Strauss studied with Mira Keren-Strauss, Lydia Teitelbaum and Ora Rotem and after the army service with Poly Asa; Studied composition with Prof. Sadai at the Tel-Aviv University; and ear training with Dr. Bat-Sheva Rubinstein. New York: Trained six years with Jack Reilly (to whom he was recommended by Dick Hayman) in classical piano, piano technique according to Alfred Cortot, traditional harmony according to Schonberg, Jazz harmony according to Bill Evans, jazz piano in all styles from Art Tatum's to Bill Evans's. Strauss learned and developed a large repertoire of all the great jazz composers (such as Gershwin, Porter, Ellington, parker, Evans). Strauss also took further trainig in composition with the modern jazz pianist Richie Bairach, and film music composing with Don Sebesky. Professional Experience in New York Performances: In the 90's he performed in New York City with top musicians such as Ron McClure (bass), Akira Tana (drums), Shonzo Ono (trumpet). He performed in leading jazz clubs such as Birdland, where he also managed the jam sessions. He performed in Philadelphia in tribute concerts to Duke Ellington and worked directly with Mercer Ellington, Duke's son and the band's leader. At that period he also went on a tour to Japan and performed in jazz clubs there. Special Projects: Strauss was the arranger and music director of singers in New Yok City and also performed and recorded with them. He worked with percussionist Montigo Joe (Weather Report). Recordings: 1992 - Duo with Ron McClure (bass) 1995 - Trio in Jimmy Madison Studio with Reuben Hoch (drums) and Fumio Tashiro (bass). 1996 - A recording of original music and arrangements to Spanish songs with a Latin-jazz orchestra of 15 Cuban and Puerto Rican musicians, a band Strauss also managed musically. Professional Experience in Israel In 1998 Arik Strauss returned to Israel and was awarded by the Ministry of Immigrant Absorption a certificate declaring him an excellent musician. Teaching: Strauss taught eight years in the jazz department of the High School of the Arts in Jerusalem. He taught jazz harmony, worked with pupils' ensembles and prepared students for matriculations' recitals. He also taught in the conservatories of Ramat Efaal and Rosh Haayin. Today he teaches in the conservatories of Givatayim and Reut/Modiin.

2003 - Duo with Eli Magen. A recording of arrangements for well known standards and original music.
Since 2005 Strauss is working on a solo recording as well as on composing his grandfather's, Arie Ludwig Strauss's poems.
2009 - Music Pangs. A solo piano CD of, mainly, original music
jazz Festivals: 2005 - The Tel-Aviv Jazz Festival. Duo with Eli Magen. Performances: In the last two years he performs in clubs such as The Yellow Submarine, Shablul, Hagada Hasmalit, Bialik Cafe.
