Hadara Levin Areddy, an honored Film/TV graduate of NYU, lived 7 years in New York City, where she directed an independent feature and gave birth to Adaam James. She then returned to Jerusalem, directed some TV-documentaries, authored a poetry book ("Papaya Zoom") and worked as a free-lance writer for several magazines.

In 2000 Hadara started her music career without any previous notion & experience, surprising herself and everyone else. Starting from scratch, she began writing her piano driven songs, performing them around, instantly winning the favoring embrace of fans, media and the Israeli music industry as the most innovative, prolific and inspiring artist around. A free spirited rebel singer/songwriter, she's been playing in festivals around the world, winning hearts with her independent ways, sharp lyrics, hard-core set of issues, mad sense of humour and her unique, passionate performances.

Since 2001 she has released 5 albums, 2 EP's (one recordeded in Glasgow) and 2 re-issues with previously unrelased bonus tracks. She's currently mixing her double-album, recording a track for a film, and starting a whole new album, involving her own son as a producer. (see the DISCOGRAPHY page for more details).

Hadara was awarded Best Alternative singer/sogwriter of the year in 2002. In 2005 she was nominated for the BEST SINGER and BEST SONG awards of the Israeli Music TV. In 2006 Hadara's concerts were transmitted by the BBC WORLD, the Romanina National TV & the Israeli TV, receiving outstanding reviews.

Some reviews

“Hadara is just like Joplin. Songs flow effortlessly from her finger tips with a bohemian, bluesy rock style that can be compared to Joni Mitchell and Janis Joplin. Everything about Hadara is genuine and honest. Her revealing lyrics give her music an intimate quality, like having a private conversation in a secluded local.” (Sunday Mail UK November 2002)

"She blends her Israelis roots with a wealth of American influences, from Bob Dylan (to whom she pays homage in several songs) to Barry White. She confesses that she prefers to ad-lib while singing, giving her songs a rough, unpolished edge. She has a bluesy, husky voice - at odds with her girlish good looks.” (Jewish Telegraph 20/2/04 Glasgow)“She’s brutally honest, a crazy combination of Tom Waits and Joni Mitchell with a Janis Joplin edge.” (Tony Paris, x-editor of Creative Loafing, US, May 2000)

"She soars to heights where the best international icons have, in their best moments. “The Move” has so many gems, magical flights, perfect moments, great songs. A unique voice, wisely used, she’s all at once, stormy and soothing, girlish and mature, harsh and vulnerable, cynical and so loving. The most beautiful music around.” (Ynet 2005) “Hadara is loaded with a rare sort of honesty, sweeping emotion and magnetizing charisma. She knows how to touch all the right places with precision, grabbing the self-conscious neo chick-chic feminism by its very heart.”   (Kol Ha’ir  15, Febuary 2002)

"The rebel girl HLA is the closest thing here to a real rock-n’-roll girl, in the Joplin-Mitchell-Sixties sense of the word. She’s got a hippish sort of sex appeal and a voice that ranges from whispers through sexual fondling to a scream. She doesn’t recall her own provocative lyrics by heart. She sings and writes about sex, relationships and quirky love. A kind of Feminism mixed with Chauvinism; girl power mixed with a tremendous need for love”. (Yedioth Acharonoth, weekend magazine 5 OCT 2001)
