“HED” BIG BAND was established in 1991 by Yehuda Cohen and has been performing since with much success.

The center for the absorption of immigrant artist in the ministry of education and the ministry of absorption has supported the project since then.

“HED” BIG BAND has performed in major festivals and events in Israel, such as Eilat jazz festival, Ashdod jazz festival, Hebrew songs festival in Arad, and film festival in Haifa. It has also performed abroad at Wichita jazz festival, and at Jewish community events and conventions in Oklahoma - USA, and South America. Top musicians perform with the Big Band, among them Michel Legrand, Tony Martin, Peter Wertheimer, Sam Rivers, Herb Pomeroy, Von Freeman and Arnie Lawrence. Eighteen professional musicians have found a home at “HED”, where they play jazz and pop music. The BIG BAND is a model of immigrant absorption and cooperation between immigrant and Israeli musicians.

Musical director Yehuda Cohen studied symphonic and jazz conducting at the Boston conservatory completed a degree in film scoring at Berkley College, and an MA in symphonic conducting at Lowell University.

“Hed” repertoire includes a large amount of compositions with a variety of styles, written by great composers of jazz history. Thad Jones, Bob Minzer, Pat Metheny, Charlie Parker, Duke Ellington and others.
HED BIG BAND also performed with ethnic and Israeli music especially arranged for the band to represent Israeli folk culture.
