Odeya Nini is a New York based composer/ improviser/ chanteuse. Her music is an amalgamation of indie chamber compositions with experimental improvisation and electronics. Her compositions aim at scoring the slender textural layers of thought and indeterminate qualities of life. Odeya received her BFA in vocal performance from the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music (2008) where she studied voice with Theo Bleckmann and composition with Kirk Nurock and Gerry Hemingway. Her music has been heard across NY and Berlin both solo and in large ensembles. She has collaborated with artists from various media such as the visual arts and dance, and has performed as a vocalist with leading musicians in the new music world including Butch Morris and Lukas Ligeti.
In the fall of 2009 she will begin her MFA in composition at California Institute of the Arts.
Odeya will be performing a solo set with some musical guests. She will present the fruit of insomnia, a wayward wandering mind, dramatic dreams of trees humming love songs in cannon and - music written on Jim Hall's piano. She will be joined by her voice, her mind, looper, ipod and some other friendly plastic, metal and light blinking toys.
